A late Victorian letter clip in the form of a hand, dating to circa 1880. Made in London and stamped GIANT KINGSGRYP CLIP, 42 GOSWELL ROAD, the hinged grip features a decorative lace cuff and clasps an envelope, a motif symbolising correspondence and receiving news. Practical and ornamental, these figural clips were often used on desks to hold papers or letters, and remain a collectable example of Victorian design and officeware.
