Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hirado porcelain originates from the kiln region of Mikawachi in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, where production flourished during the Edo and Meiji periods. Initially reserved for the patronage of the local Matsura clan, Hirado wares became world-renowned for their exceptionally fine white clay body and intricate sculptural craftsmanship.

Authentic Hirado items are fashioned from high-purity kaolin porcelain clay, resulting in a dense, vitreous, and translucent white porcelain paste. Figures and okimono were carefully hand-modelled or press-moulded with crisp relief work, then coated in a clear, highly vitreous glaze before high-temperature firing.

Authentic Hirado pieces feature an extraordinarily pure, bright white paste with a smooth glaze free from heavy iron spots or coarse inclusions. Sculptural items display sharp detailing around facial features, paws, and musculature, often featuring delicate underglaze modelling or unglazed fired bases showing fine clay body texture.

Monochrome porcelain animal figures provide an elegant sculptural element when arranged as a group on a minimalist mantelpiece, side table, or within an open bookcase. Their clean white finish bridges contemporary aesthetic schemes with classical collector interest.

Clean glazed porcelain using a soft microfibre cloth slightly dampened with warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, or submerging pieces with hollow interiors, as trapped moisture can degrade internal surfaces over time.
