A small and beautifully painted satsuma koro by SHIZAN , decorated with a full circular procession .

The design and quality of this koro is simply wonderful , the condition is pristine , no damage ,no restoration and no rubbing to the fine gilding work .

A Satsuma koro is a traditional Japanese vessel designed for burning incense, originating from Kagoshima prefecture during the late sixteenth century and further developed into ornate exported ceramics during the Meiji period.

Satsuma ceramics are constructed from a cream-coloured earthenware body featuring a characteristic crackle glaze, adorned with hand-painted polychrome enamels and detailed gilt embellishments.

Authentic Satsuma ware features a finely crackled cream glaze over a light earthenware body rather than true porcelain, intricate hand-painted decoration, and frequently carries an artist or workshop mark on the underside.
