Antique Turkmen 'chyrpy' ladies ceremonial silk embroidered coat.
Circa 1880.
This fine example of a chyrpy is probably by the Tekke Turkmen of Southern Turkmenistan.
The silk embroidery is on Adras semi silk indigo blue fabric. The lining is hand spun linen with a block printed design. The colour of the chyrpy shows the ladies status, A dark chyrpy like this one would be worn by a younger woman, while married or middle-aged women would wear yellow and older women would wear white.
The chyrpy is offered in excellent original condition.
