Meissen Porcelain Otter, Model by Max Esser

1900 - 1920
Description

A finely modelled Meissen hard-paste porcelain figure of an otter, the design introduced in 1926 by Max Esser. The present white-glazed example (weiss) displays the characteristic S-curve pose with the tail encircling a block base bearing a subtle wave motif. The base carries the moulded signature M. ESSER; the underside shows the underglaze blue crossed-swords and impressed swords, model number 78713, and the weiss annotation, all appropriate for this model and period. An exemplary German Art-Deco animalier composition emphasizing silhouette and contained movement; Esser’s Otter is a noted model within the Meissen repertoire.

Condition:

Excellent, virtually as new, with only trivial kiln and shelf traces to the foot; no chips, cracks or restorations.

Dimensions and weight:

Height 25 cm; width 11 cm; depth 12 cm; weight 1153 g

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
