Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian card and side table originates from 1860 and presents a warm brown burr walnut construction with a figured veneer top and solid walnut elements. The rectangular fold-over top has a thumb moulded edge, opening to a baize interior, and rests upon twin carved turned pedestal supports, a central turned and carved stretcher, and cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet with original castors. The timber displays rich grain patterns across the top surface, contrasting darker tones on the carved uprights, and intricate scrolling detail along the feet. Standing 72 cm high, 95 cm wide, and 47.5 cm deep, it provides a functional surface for everyday use in a hallway beside the front door, a living room, or a study. In a modern interior, this versatile piece functions as a side table against a wall or expands to serve as a card table when entertaining guests. The compact depth allows it to fit neatly into narrow hallways or reception rooms without dominating the floor space, while the warm wood tones complement traditional and eclectic decor schemes. Placed in a hallway, it offers a practical landing spot for correspondence and keys, bringing period character and traditional English country house style to daily living areas.

FAQs

Popular during the nineteenth century, these versatile pieces of furniture feature a swivel or fold-over top designed for card games, often opening to reveal a baize-lined playing surface.

Craftsmen applied highly figured burr walnut veneers over solid timber frameworks, complemented by carved support columns, turned stretchers, and cabriole legs.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut joinery, original brass castors, natural patination across the wood grain, and traditional metal swivel hinges.

Positioned against a wall when closed, it serves as a console table in a hallway or a compact accent table beneath a framed painting.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply beeswax periodically to protect the surface veneer.
