Size: 2ft 9in x 2ft 8in (85 x 81cm) excluding tassels.

Antique Uzbek ceremonial table cover, silk twist on blue velvet.

Late 19th century.

An excellent example of an Uzbek ceremonial cover for a tea table, to be used on special occasions such as weddings. This example has silk twist work on blue velvet, possibly of Russian origin. These were produced in urban workshops rather than being of tribal origin. Probably originating from the south of Uzbekistan. The cover was re-backed in Kabul in 2005.

The condition is good with some very slight age / use related wear, very slight water marks to the velvet.
