This nineteenth-century Regency library table takes the form of a dark brown rosewood piece designed for a gentleman's library or study. The richly figured timber top displays a border of fine brass stringing inlay interspersed with circular mother-of-pearl dot inlays, and the entire unit is finished on all sides so it can stand freely away from a wall. Two frieze drawers are integrated into the front elevation, fitted with small brass escutcheons and simple pulls. Below the rectangular top, a central turned column rises from a substantial quadripartite plinth supported on four scrolling feet fitted with castors. The piece measures 75.5 cm high, 110 cm wide, and 59 cm deep overall. In a modern home interior, the table functions effectively as a central freestanding desk or writing surface in a study, home office, or reception room, combining practical storage space with decorative presence.

Regency library tables typically feature flat rectangular or rounded tops, polished exotic timbers such as rosewood or mahogany, and decorative embellishments including brass inlay or metal mounts. They are supported by pedestal columns, end trestles, or splayed legs to suit study and reception spaces.

Pieces from this era frequently combined dark, figured rosewood veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, accented with cut brass stringing, brass stars or dots, and hand-cast brass hardware or castor feet.

Authentic brass inlay from the early 19th century is hand-cut and flush with the timber surface, often exhibiting subtle unevenness or minor shrinkage gaps around the metal due to natural wood movement over time.

An antique library table can serve as a focal point writing desk in a home office, a central foyer table, or a statement piece positioned behind a sofa in a spacious living area.

Clean timber surfaces with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly in the direction of the grain. Avoid chemical polishes or high-humidity environments, which can loosen timber veneers or oxidise metal details.
