Centre tables gained prominence in the 19th century as statement pieces designed to sit in the middle of a room, often used for displaying books or decorative objects.

These tables typically feature highly figured burr elm veneer applied over a secondary timber core, supported by a central pedestal and platform base with castors.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery, natural wax patination, and timber shrinkage consistent with age.

An antique table can serve as a striking focal point in a modern hallway or living space, paired with minimalist seating to highlight its natural wood grain.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically treating the surface with traditional beeswax.
