This early 19th-century Regency period writing table uses well-figured rosewood with warm brown timber tones and a polished grain pattern. The rectangular top has rounded corners above a frieze containing two drawers with open fronts. The end supports have carved scrolling details and are joined by a turned stretcher, terminating in panelled platform bases with scrolled feet and brass castors. Measuring 71.5 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, this piece serves as a compact workspace in a home study or living room. It provides a functional surface for writing and correspondence while adding period character to an interior.

The Regency era spans from approximately 1811 to 1830 in Great Britain, characterised by classical proportions, clean lines, and the prominent use of dark timbers such as rosewood and mahogany. Furniture from this period frequently incorporates Greco-Roman, Egyptian, and Asian design influences.

Regency writing tables were predominantly crafted using solid timber or timber veneers, with Brazilian rosewood and West Indian mahogany being the most favoured. Drawer linings were frequently made of oak or pine, while castors and decorative mounts were crafted from cast brass.

Authentic Regency writing tables exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, natural timber oxidisation beneath structural elements, and period-correct brass hardware. The figure of genuine early nineteenth-century rosewood shows distinctive dark grain streaks and natural patina.

A dark timber writing table provides structure when placed against a neutral wall or positioned behind a floating sofa. Pairing the piece with contemporary desk lighting or modern artwork creates a balanced contrast between historical cabinetmaking and current design styles.

To preserve rosewood, maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight, which can bleach dark timber figures. Waxing periodically with a high-quality beeswax polish protects the finish without causing chemical accumulation.
