Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian dining tables, spanning the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, often reflect a transition from the heavier, more ornate designs of the early period to lighter, highly functional pieces driven by industrial manufacturing and changing social habits.

These tables are predominantly crafted from dense, durable hardwoods such as mahogany or oak. They typically feature mechanical extension systems utilising winding handles and internal leaves, supported by sturdy turned or carved legs often fitted with brass castors.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery techniques, hand-cut dovetails or screw threads, natural patination and oxidisation of the timber over time, and makers marks or stamps beneath the table top.

Pairing a historic wooden table with contemporary minimalist seating or industrial lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition, grounding the room while maintaining functional versatility for modern entertaining.

Preservation requires maintaining stable room humidity and temperature to prevent wood warping, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the finish, and regularly treating the surface with quality beeswax while using heat mats and coasters.
