Royal Worcester Porcelain Perfume Bottle with Forget-me-not Encrustation, C. 1870

19th century
Description

An antique porcelain perfume bottle, attributed to Royal Worcester, dating to circa 1870. The surface is densely covered in hand-applied floral encrustation, each individual flower modelled and affixed by hand. This laborious decorative technique, associated with high-end Worcester production of the late 19th century, is commonly referred to as forget-me-not encrustation. The piece retains its original stopper with matching floral decoration and gilt highlights to the collar. Encrusted perfume bottles of this type were produced in very limited numbers and are now considered rare survivals. Their fragility makes complete examples particularly sought after by collectors of Worcester porcelain and 19th-century scent-related objects.

Condition and Dimensions

The rim of the neck has been professionally reattached, several small chips are visible to flower petals, and three stable hairline cracks are present at the base. Despite these flaws, the overall appearance remains complete and visually striking.

Height: 12 cm

Diameter: 7.3 cm

Weight: approx. 250 g

Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian encrusted porcelain scent bottles are decorative containers crafted during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, characterized by high-relief, three-dimensional porcelain flowers and gilding applied to the body and stopper.

These items were manufactured using fine soft-paste or bone china porcelain, hand-moulded floral elements, enamel glazes, and accents of liquid gold leaf gilding.

Authenticity is verified by examining the base for printed or impressed factory marks, checking for precise, hand-sculpted floral detail, observing natural age-related gilding wear, and inspecting the fit of the ground-porcelain stopper.

Place the object on a mirrored vanity tray, bedside table, or within a glass display cabinet alongside vintage dressing accessories to create a refined focal point.

Remove dust gently using a soft, dry artist brush or light compressed air, avoiding immersion in water or chemical cleansers that can damage delicate petals and gold leaf.
