Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Irish Regency centre table is a grand nineteenth-century piece crafted from dark brown rosewood timber. The large circular top displays a book-matched veneer pattern encircled by a double crossbanded border in lighter yew wood, all mounted on a platform base with shaped feet. Visible details include a tilt-top mechanism that holds the circular surface upright, a turned wooden collar, and distinctive grain figures throughout the polished timber surfaces. Measuring 73 cm high and 153 cm wide, the table operates as a substantial statement piece for a formal reception room, hallway, or spacious dining area. When positioned flat, it serves as a central display table for lamps, books, or decorative objects, while its tilted position allows the decorative veneered top to be viewed as a vertical panel against a wall when not in use.

FAQs

Irish Regency centre tables date from the early 19th century, featuring Classical architectural proportions, figured native or imported timber veneers, and distinct regional cabinetmaking construction.

These tables typically utilise dark Brazilian or East Indian rosewood veneers over mahogany or pine substructures, often incorporating segmented crossbanded borders and brass fittings.

Authentic examples often feature tilt-top mechanisms with original brass snap-latches, hand-cut joinery, concealed castors beneath a platform base, and natural timber oxidation.

Position the table in an entryway or room centre, layering it with modern ceramics, books, or glass vessels to create visual contrast against the dark wood grain.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, and apply high-grade beeswax polish annually using a soft lint-free cloth.
