Early and Important Chinese Carved Wooden Panels / Plaques. Circa 1750. Rare examples of old Chinese folk lore-art. Provenance (most likely): Shanxi Province, North Central China Date: 17/18th Century.

Extremely rare finely carved Chinese architectural wood panels / plaques. Once part of decorative furniture, or possibly from a very early marriage bed, these double-sided architectural panels features intricate, almost three-dimensional carvings, with interlacing patterns and a majestic dragon motif (on reverse). The panels are significantly aged with an oxidized finish and the intricate details showcase the skill of the artisan. Remarkable pieces of art with cultural richness, and a captivating glimpse into the architectural heritage of China. The panels feature intricate carvings symbolic of everyday-life, including: household utensils, musical instruments, scholarly items, and mythical beasts (*Pixiu), centrally positioned on two of the panels - essentially depicting life-learning, prosperity and wealth.

Condition: Some expected loss of carving and chips, with some finely executed conservation work. Discoloration, dirt and shrinkage, and retaining evidence of original lacquered colours of green, red and black (gold to edge pattern). The panels are significantly aged with an untouched oxidized finish.
