This Victorian campaign coffee table originates from 1880 and possesses a warm brown solid mahogany construction complemented by a deep natural tan leather insert. The low rectangular surface includes a raised gallery border, fine gold tooling along the leather perimeter, and a front frieze fitted with three drawers opened by small turned wooden knobs. Supported on short turned feet, the piece displays visible patination and a rich depth of colour across its polished timber surfaces. Practical proportions measuring 37 cm high, 126 cm wide, and 60 cm deep allow this low table to function efficiently in a gentleman's library or a traditional living room setting as a central coffee or cocktail table. Generous surface dimensions provide ample room for books and decorative items, while the enclosed frieze storage accommodates small everyday accessories.

These low tables often derive from adapted 19th-century writing desks or military campaign furniture, featuring inset leather surfaces, solid hardwood frames, and low-profile drawers.

Traditional pieces are constructed with solid mahogany or walnut timber, blind-tooled leather tops, brass keyhole escutcheons, and turned wooden drawer knobs.

Authentic period construction exhibits hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, natural surface patination on turned legs, and original keyhole linings.

Position the piece centrally with contemporary neutral-toned upholstered sofas, structured linen textiles, and modern ceramic accessories to balance the rich timber tones.

Dust timber regularly with a clean lint-free cloth, apply specialised leather balm sparingly to prevent drying, and place the table away from direct heat sources.
