FAQs

Wooden curtain poles gained prominence in period properties during the Georgian and Victorian eras when elaborate window treatments required robust, decorative hanging hardware made from dense hardwoods like mahogany.

Traditional poles were typically turned on a lathe from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often featuring hand-carved finials and fitted with cast brass or matching wooden brackets and rings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned profiles, period-appropriate timber grain, patination consistent with age, and hand-forged or cast iron and brass fixings rather than modern mass-produced screws.

A substantial wooden pole adds warmth and architectural weight to high ceilings, pairing well with neutral linen drapes to balance traditional craftsmanship with contemporary minimalism.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and occasionally applying a quality microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain without buildup.
