We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ginger jars were originally manufactured during the Qin Dynasty in China to store and transport valuable spices, oils, and salt. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, particularly during the Kangxi reign, blue and white porcelain decorated with reserved white prunus blossom patterns against a cobalt blue cracked ice ground became highly sought-after export items.

Traditional Chinese ginger jars were crafted from high-fired kaolin clay to create fine porcelain. The designs were hand-painted onto the unfired clay body using cobalt blue pigment before receiving a clear feldspathic glaze and undergoing a high-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic Kangxi era pieces typically feature a deep, vibrant cobalt blue underglaze, distinct paint application techniques, and a refined porcelain body. Markings on the base often include four or six-character reign marks or double blue rings, though late 19th and 20th-century revivals frequently replicated these marks.

Designers frequently arrange ginger jars in pairs on sideboards, mantels, or console tables to create balance and symmetry. They complement traditional English country interiors as well as modern maximalist schemes, working effectively alongside dark timber, brass accents, and fresh floral arrangements.

Porcelain jars should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. If deeper cleaning is required, gently wash the surfaces using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could damage the glaze or any unglazed base edges.
