Six Original Gunton Hall Servants’ Bell Name Plates

£645    $863    €755
This SET OF SIX PAINTED AND GILDED METAL ROOM NAME PLATES date from the first half of the nineteenth century. They are from GUNTON HALL, GUNTON PARK, NORFOLK, the one time home of the BARONS SUFFIELD.

GUNTON HALL, built in 1745, was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1882 and then lay derelict for almost a century. These ROOM NAME PLATES would originally have hung behind SERVANTS’ BELLS.

The 3rd BARON SUFFIELD, Edward Harbord (1781-1835) married Georgiana VERNON in 1809. Their son, Edward Vernon Harbord (1813-1853) became the 4th Baron on the death of his Father. This would explain the use of the Vernon name on two of the Plates. ‘O Vernon Row’ has the name Lord Suffield, Gunton written of the back.

.All the gilt lettering is original and unrestored. The most faded reads ‘Bath Room’.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of English Country House history.

Dimensions: 8 inches (20 cm) by 4.75 inches (12 cm)
