Description

An impressive Art Deco ceramic pheasant standing on rocky ground stamped LEMANCEAU for its renowned designer Charles Le Manceau c1920. This good sized piece depicts an alert cock pheasant, head turned, standing on rocky ground. The stylised modelling is typical of the forms favoured by Art Deco. Its outstanding feature is the rich deep emerald green glaze with gold highlights. Le Manceau was a leading specialist of animal and bird sculptures in the French Art Deco period. It was most likely made by the St Clement ceramic works, who made many of Le Manceau's designs. This is a striking statement piece in excellent condition.
