Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originally created during the Ming and Qing dynasties, Chinese fish bowls were large ceramic vessels designed to display fancy goldfish indoors or in courtyard gardens during warmer months. Over time, these decorative containers became highly favoured export items and central elements of Western Chinoiserie interior design.

These vessels are crafted from fine kaolin clay mixed with petuntse, formed by hand or wheel-thrown, and painted with cobalt blue oxide decoration before receiving a clear feldspathic glaze. The pieces are then fired at temperatures exceeding 1,200 degrees Celsius, fusing the pigment beneath the vitreous surface.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-painted variation in cobalt blue density, unglazed rough foot rims showing the clay body, minor glaze pinpointing or firing imperfections, and appropriate structural weight. Later reproductions often feature uniform printed patterns or perfectly smooth, chalky undersides.

A Chinese fish bowl serves as a striking focal point when set on a wooden stand in an entry hall, placed in an empty corner, or used as a cachepot for large indoor plants like orchids or palms. It bridges classic antiques with contemporary decor through its crisp contrast of cobalt blue and white.

Clean the surface gently using warm water, mild liquid detergent, and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals. If used as an active plant container, place a plastic liner inside to prevent moisture absorption and mineral buildup through micro-fractures in the glaze.
