Limoges enamel production originated in Limoges, France, renowned since the medieval period for champleve and later painted enamel techniques. During the 18th century, small luxury wares such as open salts, snuff boxes, and scent bottles were crafted using hand-painted enamels on metal substrates, often decorated with floral or pastoral scenes.
