FAQs

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830, and is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from heavier oak designs to lighter imported woods like mahogany later in the period.

Georgian tables were predominantly constructed from native hardwoods such as oak and elm, often utilising hand-cut dovetail joints for drawers, pegged mortise and tenon joints for frames, and cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining hand-tooled surfaces, irregular dovetail sizing indicating hand-cutting, historic shrinkage cracks, traditional joinery methods, and the natural oxidisation and wear patterns of the wood over centuries.

An antique oak table can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist decor, modern lighting, or contrasting textiles to highlight its historical texture and craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Antique wood should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusted regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally treated with traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
