Jasperware is an unglazed stoneware developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, characterised by its matte finish and raised white classical relief decorations.

Jasperware was created using coloured stoneware bodies, with decorative bas-relief motifs moulded separately in white clay and hand-applied to the surface prior to firing.

Authentic pieces feature sharp detail in the applied white bas-relief, a smooth matte stoneware texture, and impressed maker marks such as WEDGWOOD alongside date letters on the base.

Miniature jasperware pieces can be displayed within glass cabinets, arranged on bookshelf displays, or grouped together as decorative accents on a mantelpiece.
