A pair of early twentieth century grape hods, or ‘hottes’ as they are called in France, in blue and decorated with the Chateau Neuf Du-Pape name and crest. These are made from galvanised metal and would have been worn on the back to hold the gathered grapes during the grape harvest - part of the leather harness straps are still present. I can’t imagine they would have been very comfortable to wear! For sale as a pair…Grape hods ceased to be used around twenty years ago when mechanical grape pickers became the norm. They are now highly sort after as decorative wine and champagne coolers, or as decorative planters for large floral displays.
