Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A millstone is a large circular stone used in watermills, windmills, or horsepower mills to grind grains such as wheat, barley, or rye into flour. Used in pairsa stationary bedstone and a rotating runner stonetheir cut grooves or furrows processed raw crops through weight and friction.

Historic millstones were typically hand-carved from dense, hard-wearing sedimentary rocks such as millstone grit, sandstone, quartz conglomerate, or French burr stone. The selected stone required high tensile strength to endure continuous abrasive contact without disintegrating into processed flour.

Authentic period millstones show signs of hand-chiselled surface dressing, concentric or radial furrow patterns, and a central square or rectangular drive hole termed the eye. Genuine age is evidenced by uneven wear around the operational surface, natural weathering, lichen growth, and oxidation from environmental exposure.

In outdoor landscapes, millstones serve as rustic garden features, water fountain bases, or set into stone paving as historic focal points. Indoors, smaller millstones can be mounted on bespoke metal stands as sculptural art or integrated into custom table bases.

Natural stone requires minimal maintenance but should be kept clear of heavy debris. To clean, use a soft bristle brush and plain water, avoiding aggressive chemical cleaners or high-pressure power washers that can strip historic lichens, patination, or delicate tool marks.
