English Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced in England from the late sixteenth century through the eighteenth century, heavily influenced by Dutch Delft and imported Chinese porcelain. Major production centres included Lambeth, Bristol, and Liverpool, creating distinctive items decorated with hand-painted motifs in cobalt blue and other oxide shades.

Vessels were shaped from local clay bodies and subject to a biscuit firing before being dipped into an opaque glaze containing tin oxide. Artisans painted designs directly onto the raw, unfired glaze using metallic oxidessuch as cobalt for blueprior to a final high-temperature firing that fused glaze and pigment together.
