FAQs

Demi-lune, or half-moon, console tables gained prominence during the late 18th and 19th centuries, frequently influenced by neoclassical, Regency, and Egyptian revival design motifs popular in European interiors.

These tables are traditionally constructed from hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass or gilt bronze mounts, and polished timber veneers laid over secondary framing woods.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber ageing, hand-forged or early machine fixings, natural wax patination, construction wear consistent with age, and traditional joinery techniques rather than modern adhesives.

They can be placed flat against a hallway wall or paired together to form a circular centre table, styled simply with a ceramic lamp, bronze object, or architectural mirror to contrast modern and historical textures.

Preserve walnut surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to maintain the natural finish without sealing the wood.
