FAQs

Marquetry involves applying finely cut pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, gaining prominence in European furniture design during the 17th and 18th centuries.

These pieces typically utilized a carcase of secondary wood such as oak or pine, veneered with exotic and native hardwoods, and embellished with detailed floral or geometric inlay.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut nature of the veneers, the type of underlying timber, patination, and period-appropriate joinery techniques.

Such a table functions effectively as a standalone centrepiece in a living space or study, contrasting sharply against minimalist modern backgrounds to highlight its craftsmanship.

Preservation requires maintaining stable humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and applying occasional conservative applications of microcrystalline wax.
