FAQs

A sulphide marble is a type of glass marble featuring a three-dimensional ceramic-like figure embedded within the centre. They were predominantly produced in Germany and France during the mid-to-late nineteenth century.

These items are crafted from molten glass encasing a moulded sulphide of potassium or a similar ceramic compound. The figure was placed into the molten glass gather before being shaped and polished into a sphere.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit handmade characteristics such as pontil marks, minor surface imperfections, air bubbles within the glass, and intricate detail in the enclosed sulphide figurine.

These objects can be displayed individually on small stands, within a curated cabinet of curiosities, or grouped with other glass collectables to add texture and historical interest to a surface.

Preserve these items by keeping them out of direct sunlight to prevent thermal shock or discolouration. Clean gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials.
