Charlie Johnson Payne, Snaffles (British, 1884-1967)
‘You’re a better sight than the Lord Mayor’s show.’, Greetings card, circa 1943, signed ‘Snaffles’ and dated ‘43 in pencil, printed and heavily hand coloured, in a later mount and a later ebonised frame.
In his later years, Snaffles turned his hand to Christmas and Greetings cards; some reminiscent of his earlier print subjects, all typically characterful, and with a certain charm.
