Staffordshire pottery dogs, particularly spaniels, were mass-produced by numerous potteries in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century, frequently displayed on mantelpieces in Victorian homes.

These figures were typically slip-cast or press-moulded from earthenware clay, hand-painted with underglaze colours or lustre finishes, and fired in coal-burning kilns.

Authentic pieces often feature crazing in the glaze, vent holes on the underside or back, hand-painted facial details with distinctive brushstrokes, and sometimes copper or gold lustre highlights.

They can be placed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables to introduce a touch of historic character and traditional eccentricity into contemporary spaces.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, avoid using liquid cleaners or harsh chemicals, and keep them out of direct sunlight to protect the glaze and painted surface.
