FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated craftsmanship, and a transition from heavy walnut to refined mahogany.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, incorporating traditional joinery like dovetailing for drawers and mortise-and-tenon frames.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, tool marks from hand planes, uniform patination from centuries of oxidation, and period-appropriate hardware fixed with hand-turned screws.

Pair the warm timber tones with contemporary lighting and neutral upholstery to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern minimalism.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically nourish the finish with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
