Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of vintage 1930s bookends combines warm brown mahogany with gold-coloured cast brass reliefs of Scottish Terriers mounted onto arched wooden bases. Each piece includes embossed lettering along the rocky ground beneath the dogs, finished with smooth polished surfaces and sturdy right-angled brackets to hold volumes in place on a shelf. The wood displays a rich reddish-brown grain with clean edges free from chips or cracks, complemented by the detailed metallic texture of the canine figures facing inward toward one another. Measuring 15 cm high, 12.5 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, these compact accessories fit neatly on a study shelf, desk, or mantelpiece to organise books in a traditional gentleman's library or a contemporary living room setting.

FAQs

During the 1930s interwar period, cast metal and brass decorative items depicting popular dog breeds such as Scottish Terriers became widely favoured as functional desk accessories and library ornaments.

Bookends from this era frequently combined heavy cast brass or bronze relief figures with polished hardwood backings to provide structural stability and visual contrast.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural age-related oxidisation, crisp casting details with minor hand-finishing, and period-appropriate screw or pin fixings attaching the metal motif to the wooden base.

Place them on a timber bookshelf, mantelpiece, or executive desk to flank a row of hardback volumes, introducing historic texture and warm metallic tones to the room.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth, nourish the timber with a natural beeswax polish, and avoid abrasive cleaners on the metal to preserve the original patina.
