FAQs

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, is characterised by classical influences derived from ancient Greece and Rome, featuring clean lines, restrained ornamentation, and an emphasis on the natural grain of exotic timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinetmakers of this era frequently employed dense tropical hardwoods such as Brazilian rosewood, often utilised as veneers over secondary woods to display striking grain patterns, combined with robust pedestal bases and brass castors.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails and hand-turned components, the presence of genuine patina, and the use of period-appropriate fixings rather than modern screws.

A round pedestal table can anchor a dining area or serve as a dramatic centrepiece in a foyer, contrasting effectively with minimalist modern seating to highlight the rich texture and historic warmth of the wood.

Rosewood furniture should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting or fading, and maintained periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
