We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Bentwood manufacturing involves steaming solid timber to make it pliable, allowing craftsmen to bend it into curved, graceful forms. Pioneered by Michael Thonet in the 19th century, this innovative technique revolutionised furniture design by producing lightweight yet durable pieces without traditional joinery.

These pieces are typically constructed from European beech wood, chosen for its strength and grain structure when steamed. Steam-bent rods are secured using metal screws, bolts, and cane bindings, often featuring a metal or ceramic drip tray at the base to catch moisture.

Authentic pieces often feature manufacturer stamps, paper labels, or branded signatures beneath the base, alongside hand-turned finials, patinated wood surfaces, and traditional slotted screws. The presence of aged metal drip trays and natural wear patterns further indicates authenticity.

Position the piece in an entryway or hallway to introduce organic warmth and historical contrast to clean, contemporary lines. Its slender silhouette makes it functional for holding walking sticks or umbrellas while serving as a sculptural decorative element.

Maintain the wood by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and occasionally applying neutral beeswax to nourish the finish. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture to prevent the wood from drying out or warping.
