Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th century Chinese lot comprises two porcelain bowls finished in a blue and white cobalt underglaze. The larger vessel exhibits a flared rim, a hand-painted fish motif, geometric borders, and seaweed-style underglaze paintwork, alongside visible old repair work and damage. The smaller matching cup includes a chipped rim and a smaller footprint, presented alongside the principal bowl on a wooden surface against a neutral background. The larger piece measures 10.5 cm high by 23 cm wide and 23 cm deep, while the smaller cup stands 6 cm tall with a 7 cm diameter. These pieces suit display on a sideboard top in a dining room, living area, or hallway display cabinet. They function as decorative ornaments or collector display items within a traditional interior space.

FAQs

Authenticity is evaluated through hand-painted brushwork details, foot rim construction, period reign or artist marks, and natural age wear on the unglazed base. Hand-applied decoration displays minor organic variations rather than mechanical precision.

Blue and white ceramics serve as classic decorative accents when arranged on sideboards, open shelving, or mantelpieces. The contrasting palette complements modern minimalist schemes, dark timber furniture, and botanical arrangements.

Clean unsealed ceramics using lukewarm water and gentle soap with a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. Items with existing cracks or historic repairs must never be submerged in water or subjected to temperature extremes.

Authentic pieces are composed of kaolin clay combined with petuntse (porcelain stone), forming a hard-paste white body. The decoration utilises mineral cobalt blue underglaze paint protected by a high-fired transparent glaze.

Blue and white porcelain originated in China during the Tang dynasty and achieved world-renowned refining during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Cobalt blue pigment is painted onto ceramic bodies prior to glazing and firing at high temperatures, producing durable underglaze designs.
