FAQs

Imari porcelain is a traditional type of Japanese export pottery produced in the town of Arita, known for its distinctive palette of underglaze blue, iron red, and gilt highlights.

These pieces are crafted from hard-paste porcelain, painted by hand using mineral pigments and cobalt oxide, then fired at high temperatures in wood-burning kilns.

Authentication involves examining the glaze for firing imperfections, checking the foot rim for signs of wear and age, and observing the vibrancy and application of the hand-painted mineral colours.

Large chargers can be mounted securely on a wall as a focal point or displayed flat on a large surface using a sturdy metal stand to showcase the intricate pattern.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid using chemical cleaners or immersing the piece in water to protect the hand-painted glaze and potential gilding.
