A knitting sheath, also known as a knitting stick or belt, is a traditional domestic tool used historically in hand-knitting to support one of the needles, tucked into a belt or apron waist to increase knitting speed.

They were commonly carved from local hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, mahogany, or sycamore, and frequently embellished with bone, horn, pewter, or brass inlays by makers or folk artisans.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved tool marks, genuine wear patterns from frequent use, appropriate patination, and period-correct fastening methods, distinguishing them from modern reproductions.

Small treen objects can be displayed on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or inside glass cabinets as sculptural accent pieces that add warmth, texture, and historical narrative to contemporary schemes.

Maintain antique wooden items in stable environmental conditions away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity, occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
