FAQs

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy walnut designs to refined mahogany, incorporating classical architectural proportions and influences from cabinetmakers like Chippendale and Sheraton.

Master craftsmen typically utilised dense, imported Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in drawers, solid secondary timbers such as oak or pine, and traditional beeswax finishes.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut joinery, the presence of period-appropriate brass hardware, natural timber shrinkage and oxidisation patterns, and hand-planed underside boards rather than modern mechanical fasteners.

Pairing rich mahogany wood tones with neutral wall colours, minimalist modern seating, and contemporary ceramic accents creates a balanced interior scheme that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding silicone-based polishes entirely, and feeding the wood periodically with pure natural beeswax to preserve the moisture and patina.
