Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter in weight and colour than heavy Victorian pieces, drawing inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals.

Cabinet makers typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, frequently incorporating polished veneers and brass mechanisms for extension leaves.

Authentic pieces generally feature period joinery methods, such as hand-cut dovetails where applicable, authentic patination, traditional French polish finishes, and maker marks or stamps from the era.

Pairing a dark wood period table with contemporary minimalist seating or placing it within a neutral-toned room creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate wax polish to preserve the finish.
