This late eighteenth-century English side table dates from 1780 and exemplifies a traditional Georgian country house style. The piece is constructed from solid oak with a dark brown finish and displays visible wood grain, surface patination, and minor wear. The rectangular top sits above a frieze decorated with carved detailing along the lower edge. Four heavily turned baluster legs support the structure, united near the base by horizontal box stretchers that provide added stability. Pegged joinery connects the vertical and horizontal structural components throughout the frame. Measuring 69 cm high, 62 cm wide, and 39 cm deep, the table fits neatly into compact spaces. Homeowners today typically place this small furnishing at the end of a sofa to hold lamps, drinks, or decorative items, or use it as a compact accent table in a hallway, bedroom, or living room.

Country oak side tables from the 18th century are characterised by solid timber construction, utilitarian proportions, and hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs.

Craftsmen primarily utilised native English oak, constructing table frames with hand-planed timber planks, turned legs, and low box stretchers to provide structural rigidity.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-saw marks, natural timber shrinkage across wide boards, wooden dowel joinery, and uneven wear patterns on the stretchers and feet.

Place the item beside modern upholstered furniture to create visual contrast, or style it as an accent table in an entryway, alcove, or reading corner.

Maintain the patinated finish by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying beeswax polish periodically while keeping the timber away from direct heat sources.
