FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, encompassing various revival styles that typically featured rich timber, substantial weight, and refined joinery.

Cabinetmakers during the Victorian era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood, frequently incorporating secondary timbers like pine or oak for interior framing.

Authentic pieces usually display period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional wood screws, genuine patina from age, and natural shrinkage cracks rather than machine tooling.

Pairing a dark wood antique piece with contemporary minimalist seating or placing it alongside clean-lined upholstery creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the wood.
