Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mangle board, known in Norway as a mangletre, is a traditional Nordic folk art object used from the 16th to 19th centuries to press and smooth damp linen. The fabric was wrapped around a wooden roller, and the mangle board was pressed heavily over top to roll out wrinkles. They were frequently carved by young men as traditional engagement gifts for prospective brides.

Mangle boards were typically hand-carved from dense, locally sourced Scandinavian woods such as birch, pine, or oak. The timber was chosen for its durability to withstand heavy downward pressure during linen pressing, often finished with natural oil or left bare to absorb warmth and patina over time.

Authentic 18th-century pieces are characterised by hand-carved chip decoration, traditional Norwegian motifs, carved dates or initials, and raised handles often shaped as horses or functional grips. Look for uneven hand-tool marks on the underside and smooth, honest wear patterns along the pressing face.

These decorative wooden boards are commonly mounted vertically on narrow wall spaces or displayed horizontally along picture ledges and sideboards. Their warm timber tones and geometric carving add texture and historical narrative to modern rustic, Scandinavian, or minimalist interiors.

Dust the item regularly using a dry, soft lint-free cloth or gentle brush. Keep the piece in a climate-controlled room away from direct heat sources and dampness to prevent wood warping, and apply a light coating of natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the timber patina.
