FAQs

These pieces typically feature classical proportions, refined timber selections, and understated decorative stringing or crossbanding reflecting the dominant design aesthetics of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid mahogany and pine carcasses overlaid with fine mahogany veneers, accentuated with contrasting satinwood banding, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct timber shrinkage, hand-cut joinery, old secondary woods such as oak or pine in drawer linings, and natural patination accumulated through decades of use.

Pairing the warm timber tones with minimalist modern seating and contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the historic craftsmanship within a modern room.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
