Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover, lasting from 1714 to 1830. This era saw significant developments in design, moving from heavy, robust oak constructions influenced by earlier periods to more refined styles incorporating walnut and mahogany, heavily shaped by prominent cabinet makers.

Cabinet makers predominantly used native hardwoods such as oak during the early Georgian period, transitioning later to imported mahogany and walnut. Construction relied on traditional joinery methods including mortise and tenon joints, dovetail drawers, and hand-turned wooden components without the use of modern power tools or metal fasteners.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction hallmarks such as hand-cut dovetails, tool marks left by hand planes, shrinking and oxidisation consistent with age, and period-appropriate hardware. Secondary woods used inside drawers should also match the expected regional species for the claimed century.

Pairing period wooden pieces with modern elements creates a balanced scheme. Placing a historic table against a neutral plastered wall or alongside minimalist seating allows the natural grain and historic craftsmanship to stand out as a focal point.

Preserve timber surfaces by avoiding direct sunlight and maintaining stable room humidity to prevent wood from splitting. Clean periodically with a soft, dry cloth and apply traditional beeswax sparingly to nourish the grain without building up synthetic residues.
