The Louis XV style, or Rococo, emerged in France during the 18th century, characterised by asymmetry, curving lines, natural motifs, and a shift away from the heavy grandeur of earlier periods towards more intimate, graceful furniture designs.

These pieces typically feature a carcase of native or exotic hardwoods such as oak or pine, overlaid with fine veneers and marquetry patterns, and embellished with cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts known as ormolu.

Authentic pieces often show hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery methods, natural oxidisation on the wood and metal surfaces, and subtle irregularities in the hand-cast bronze mounts that indicate historical manufacturing techniques.

Such a table functions well as a focal point in an entryway or living room, paired with a modern mirror above to create a contrasting dialogue between historical ornamentation and clean, contemporary lines.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels to prevent veneer cracking, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and avoid chemical polishes which can damage the delicate French polish finish and metallic mounts.
