Dragoncharger Antiques has dated this Minton Blue White Compote to the 1800s.
The popular Bamboo and Flowers pattern was introduced c. 1820. The pattern is found with no other mark than the Semi China printed mark that is probably the earliest formal printed mark used by Minton.
In excellent condition with only minor frits (note chip to base). Retaining its full splendour of blue and white, in almost as new and original condition. With the coat of arms, this large (and heavy) compote would have formed a significant piece of the Service. I have an identical Meat Platter and Drainer from the same Service.
A rare superb collectors item. Provenance: Flora Rabinovitch Collection.
Condition: Excellent condition, chip to base rim, minor imperfections to be expected.
Diameter = 29.5cm; Depth = 7cm.
Arms (see last colour photo): Quarterly gules and azure, in the first and fourth quarters a leopard''s head affrontee Or, in the second and third a covered cup between in chief two buckles fessewise, all of the last.
Crest: On a wreath Or and gules, A demi virgin issuing from a cloud proper, in a gown gules and kirtle Or, arms extended, holding in the dexter hand proper a balance gold and in the sinister hand a touchstone proper.
Supporters: On either side a unicorn Or, the mane, hoofs and tail argent.
Motto: Justitia virtutum regina - ''Justice is the Queen of Virtues''.
