Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, favouring lighter proportions, simpler lines, and delicate ornamentation compared to heavy Victorian pieces.

Cabinet makers of the Edwardian period predominantly utilised imported timbers such as mahogany, satinwood, and walnut, frequently incorporating intricate veneer work, cross-banding, and fine string inlay.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate joinery methods such as dovetails on drawers, hand-turned or fluted legs, and natural signs of ageing, wear, and patina consistent with early 20th-century craftsmanship.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with modern upholstery or minimalist accessories creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that grounds a contemporary living space with historical character.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain and protect the finish.
