Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy walnut designs to lighter, highly refined mahogany pieces influenced by classical proportions and cabinetmakers like Chippendale and Sheraton.

These tables were predominantly constructed from dense, durable hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring traditional joinery like tenons and dovetails, paired with a birdcage mechanism or a iron catch allowing the circular top to pivot.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina from age, shrinkage cracks in the timber, hand-turned pillars, and subtle imperfections in the symmetry that betray hand-tooling rather than modern machinery.

An antique pedestal table adds character and historical contrast when placed beside a contemporary sofa or used as a functional standalone surface in a minimalist living space, allowing the natural wood grain to warm up neutral colour palettes.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and cleaning gently with a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
