Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Originating in the early 20th century, coin-operated weight and fortune-telling scales became fixtures in seaside piers, arcades, and railway stations, combining novelty amusement with functional weighing.

These robust machines were typically constructed using heavy cast iron frames, pressed steel panels, internal mechanical levers, and glass dials, designed to withstand heavy public usage.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct mechanical coin mechanisms, original painted or enamelled finishes with natural patina, cast maker plates, and heavy-duty cast iron construction rather than modern lightweight replicas.

Such statement pieces function well as focal points in large entryways, open-plan living spaces, or commercial interiors, pairing effectively with raw architectural elements and neutral backdrops.

Preservation involves dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could damage the original patina or paintwork, and occasionally lubricating internal moving mechanical parts with light machine oil.
